Excel VBA/Macro Specialist Needed

EXCEL VBA / MACRO CONSULTANT REQUIRED – ONGOING SUPPORT & DEVELOPMENT We are looking for an experienced Excel VBA / Macro developer to take over the maintenance and development of an existing macro-enabled Excel workbook. The workbook was developed internally and is an important part of our business process. We need someone who can understand an existing VBA application, troubleshoot errors when they occur, and add new functionality as required. This is NOT simply an Excel spreadsheet job. We are looking for someone with strong VBA development and debugging experience who is comfortable taking over code written by another developer. INITIAL PROJECT The first stage will be to review and understand the existing workbook and provide an assessment of its structure, dependencies and maintainability. The work will include: • Reviewing the existing VBA code and macro structure • Understanding how the workbook and macros operate • Identifying potential problems or fragile areas • Troubleshooting any existing errors • Checking compatibility with current Microsoft Excel / Microsoft 365 • Reviewing external links, references, files, add-ins or other dependencies • Reviewing UserForms and automated processes where applicable • Making recommendations to improve reliability and maintainability • Adding appropriate documentation/comments to the code • Advising on a suitable backup/version-control process ONGOING WORK Following the initial review, we would like to establish an ongoing relationship with the successful freelancer. Future work may include: • Fixing VBA/macro errors • Modifying existing functionality • Adding new features • Developing new macros • Improving the performance and reliability of the workbook • Supporting changes arising from Microsoft Excel/Microsoft 365 updates • Providing advice on possible improvements or automation REQUIRED EXPERIENCE You should have substantial experience with: • Microsoft Excel • Excel VBA • Macro development • Debugging and troubleshooting VBA • Taking over existing/legacy VBA applications • Modifying code written by another developer • Excel formulas, tables, named ranges and data validation • VBA UserForms, if applicable • Microsoft 365 / current versions of Excel DESIRABLE ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE Experience with any of the following would be an advantage: • Power Query • SQL • Microsoft Access • ODBC/database connections • Power Automate • Excel-to-database integrations • Git or other version-control systems • Modernising older VBA solutions IDEAL CANDIDATE The ideal candidate will have previously inherited a complex Excel/VBA workbook developed by someone else and successfully taken responsibility for maintaining and enhancing it. You should be comfortable working with an existing system and understanding how it works before recommending changes. We are not looking for someone who will automatically suggest rebuilding the workbook from scratch. We value careful, structured development and want changes to be made without disrupting existing functionality. APPLICATION Please provide: 1.
