عن الوظيفة

Project Brief: Ukrainian Adaptation of the Fantasy Series "Yggdrasil" Background: I’ve written a five-book fantasy series for young readers (ages 11–16). They are around 10- 12 000 words EACH, The original version is set in York, UK, and follows Ava, a teenage girl who, after being abandoned by her stepfather, moves with her mother to a new city. There, she is drawn into a cosmic struggle between light and darkness The books have already been automatically translated into Ukrainian. This is where you come in. Your job has four main parts. First, you must edit the existing text into high-quality, fluent Ukrainian — the language should flow smoothly and read like it was written by a skilled Ukrainian author. The text must also look clean and well structured like it does in the first book. When you do this part, please note that these ********** markings constitute partitions in the chapters, and cannot be removed without rewriting/ restructuring the whole chapter. The second part of your job is that you must relocate the setting to Ukraine, Kyiv, rewrite, and reshape the worldbuilding so that it blends Slavic and Scandinavian mythology, also with a smaller influence from Iranian and other traditions. The third part is that you must make the books slightly longer, by adding chapters, and adding pages to the chapters. On average each book should be at least 10 pages longer. And the fourth part is that you must try and ad suspense. I am terrible at this, my books tend to be quite predictable. You can do this by changing the order of the chapters on occasion, though you must think this thru thoroughly in each case. Also maybe one of the main characters can be hypnotized and become a bad actor for a period of time. This too needs to be planned well, so that it does not become illogical. For instance the children must not reveal their true identity, or location to the shadow Mags, so maybe some other bad actor could be behind such a thing. Suggestions: - More can be written about the mains character’s daily life, school, conflict, etc. The school iself shouldn’t be magical like Hogwarts. It is just a normal school, but there may still be other magical groups operating there behind the scenes and there may be shadowmags in the city. ‘’Ava’’ needs to be careful because if they find her location, they may target her, her family, or the families of her team, when they don’t expect it. Also, the war is happening in the background, adding both horror, drama, suspense and a sense of realism. - the Russian government spreads a lot of anti- semitic nonsense propaganda, it could be good if the children were to encounter some of this, in all it’s absurdity. Russia is invading Ukraine in order to denazify evil, homosexual, nazi-capitalist- communist jews, and keeping them from defiling white, Slavic women, or some nonsense like that. - The Norns (from Norse mythology) could be changed to Doli (сестри долі), the Slavic sisters of fate, while keeping some mystical traits from the original norns. Maybe they can be called both Norns, and doli interchangeably. - Yggdrasil, the world tree, can become the Divine Oak (Божественний Дуб), inspired by both Slavic folklore and the Germanic Irminsul. Should keep the same characteristics as Yggdrasil in the original series though. - Shieldmaidens can be referred to as 'щитоноси' or 'амазонки' where appropriate. - Huscarls become 'богатирі', reflecting heroic Slavic warriors. - 'The Creator' may be referred to as Perun, but elements of Zoroastrianism (e.g. a mystical elixir or ancient relics) can also be introduced for Iranian influence. * Ps. I love the episodes in the dreamworld, so please don’t change them too much. In fact change them as little as possible. * only relatively small adaptations need to be done to the imaginary worlds. It is mostly the real world where the children live, that needs to be relocated to a bookshop in Kyiv. Don’t make it more complicated than it has to be. Note: You may reuse 80–90% of the translated material, but at least 10-20% must be rewritten or added. The automatic translations must be also carefully reviewed and corrected. Please remember that the job is to do both well, not just one of the two. I expect a series of books that are set in Ukraine, better, and a little bit longer, that I can take to publishers and agents in Ukraine, and get a contract from them.
