The Real Challenge in the Job Market: It's Not a Lack of Jobs, but a Lack of Connection

The job market lives a paradox: while millions of people seek employment, companies across various sectors claim they cannot find qualified professionals to fill their vacancies. The recurring discourse is that opportunities are lacking, but the reality is more complex. The great challenge is not the number of available jobs, but the difficulty in connecting those who need to hire with those who wish to work.

This disconnect is not just a matter of geography or technical requirements. It also involves a lack of alignment between employers' expectations and the skills actually developed by candidates. Often, resumes present solid education, but that does not correspond to the practical needs of companies' day-to-day operations. On the other hand, professionals with potential and willingness to learn end up discarded for not fitting into rigid selection criteria.

Technology, which could be an ally in this process, often deepens the problem. Automated screening systems filter resumes by keywords, leaving aside candidates who could be excellent but do not use the exact terms required by the algorithm. Meanwhile, small and medium-sized enterprises, which do not have access to large recruitment platforms, rely on limited networks, missing opportunities to find talent in unexpected places.

For the worker, this inefficiency translates into long periods of unemployment or underemployment, even when there are open positions in their field. The frustration increases when the professional is forced to accept positions below their qualification, generating demotivation and loss of productivity. For companies, the cost is equally high: positions that remain open for months, overload for existing teams, and loss of competitiveness.

Building a more efficient bridge between supply and demand for work requires a change of approach. This includes investing in requalification programs aligned with the real demands of the market, as well as rethinking selection processes to value behavioral competencies and learning potential, rather than just diplomas and previous experiences. It is also essential that recruitment platforms evolve to connect people and companies in a more human and personalized way.

The problem is not the lack of jobs, but the lack of connection. Until there is a joint effort by companies, governments, and educational institutions to bring the two sides closer, the job market will continue to live with the paradox of having opportunities and, at the same time, not being able to fill them. The solution involves recognizing that the challenge is structural and requires innovation, collaboration, and, above all, a broader vision of what it means to be ready to work.
