Sky Map Gifts – Website Development & Maintenance

## Project Overview Sky Map Gifts (https://skymapgifts.com) is an online personalized star map business. Customers can create a personalized night-sky design based on a specific date, time, and location, then purchase and download a high-resolution PDF. The website is built with **ASP.NET Core Razor Pages / .NET 8**, with PostgreSQL and Docker. I am looking for an experienced developer who can help maintain, improve, and extend the existing website. ## Main Responsibilities The developer may be responsible for: * Fixing bugs and existing website issues * Improving the customer personalization/customizer flow * Improving the shopping cart and checkout process * PayPal payment integration and troubleshooting * Order processing and PDF generation * Improving website performance * Improving mobile responsiveness * Fixing UI/UX issues * Implementing new website features * Working with PostgreSQL / Entity Framework Core * Working with Docker and the existing deployment environment * Troubleshooting production issues * Improving SEO-related technical issues when required * Integrating third-party services when necessary * Testing all changes before deployment ## Existing Technology The current website uses technologies including: * ASP.NET Core Razor Pages * .NET 8 * C# * Entity Framework Core * PostgreSQL * Docker / Docker Compose * Bootstrap 5 * JavaScript * D3-Celestial for star-map rendering * PuppeteerSharp for PDF/image generation * PayPal integration * Email service integration * Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager The developer should be comfortable working with an existing codebase and should **not rewrite the website from scratch unless specifically requested**. ## Development Requirements Before making significant changes, the developer should understand the existing architecture and explain the proposed solution. Code should: * Follow the existing project structure and coding style * Be clean and maintainable * Avoid unnecessary dependencies * Avoid breaking existing functionality * Include appropriate error handling * Be tested locally before deployment * Work correctly on desktop and mobile * Be production-ready Any database changes should be clearly documented. ## Communication The developer should provide: 1. A short explanation of what was changed 2. Any files/components that were modified 3. Testing performed 4. Any configuration or deployment changes required 5. Any issues or recommendations discovered during development For larger tasks, development should be completed in small milestones so that changes can be reviewed before moving to the next stage. ## Important Sky Map Gifts is an existing production website. **Do not make major changes directly to production without approval.** Before deploying a significant change, the developer should provide the change for review and confirm what will be affected. All source code and work produced under this contract will belong to Sky Map Gifts upon payment, subject to Upwork's applicable terms. The developer must keep all website code, credentials, customer information, business information, and other project information confidential. ## First Task The first task will be to review the existing Sky Map Gifts website/codebase and identify: * Current architecture * Main customer flow * Existing issues * Potential bugs * Performance problems * Security concerns * Areas that could be improved After the review, provide a short list of recommended improvements with estimated effort for each item. Do not make major changes during the initial review unless specifically requested. ## Success Criteria The work will be considered complete when: * The requested functionality works as described * Existing functionality continues to work * No known critical errors remain * The implementation is tested * The code is clean and maintainable * The changes are documented sufficiently for future maintenance
