Impact of a Product Manager As a Product Manager at Upsun, you own a significant area of Upsun Cloud, our cloud application platform, and the outcomes it delivers for the developers who build on it. The team you join owns the platform's foundations: the API, the runtime, environments, and the reliability every application running on Upsun depends on. And because Upsun is the cloud application platform humans and robots love, much of what you build will be used by AI agents as much as by people. This is a hands-on, technically rich role that bridges product strategy and deep infrastructure understanding. You own the strategy and the roadmap for your area, working closely with engineering to define platform behavior, build scalable abstractions, and shape workflows that empower modern development teams. Throughout, you act as the key voice for the user, making sure everything we ship contributes meaningfully to an exceptional developer experience. What to expect Strategy and roadmap: Own the strategy, roadmap, and priorities for your area of Upsun Cloud, balancing established foundations with uncharted territory. Problem definition: Synthesize inputs from customers, support, sales, and engineering into clear problem statements, constructively testing underlying assumptions. Solution definition: Explore options with your team, weigh trade-offs, and land on the right scope. Ship small, iterate fast: Release in increments and shorten the loop between shipping and learning. Technical execution: Collaborate with engineering (especially infrastructure and systems teams) to deliver platform capabilities that are reliable, scalable, and developer-friendly. Design for humans and agents: Build with two audiences in mind—ensuring features, APIs, documentation, and error messages serve both people and AI agents. Customer and data authority: Connect with customers regularly, serve as an internal advocate for their needs, and define metrics that demonstrate value for users and the business. Influence across teams: Build alignment across engineering, design, Product Marketing, support, and leadership. Go-to-market: Partner with Product Marketing early so go-to-market strategy helps shape the product, not just the launch.
Product management experience: Proven experience in product management owning a distinct product area, ideally focused on developer platforms, PaaS, or cloud infrastructure. Technical depth: Understanding of building, deploying, and running applications in the cloud, with the ability to collaborate closely with infrastructure engineers on multi-tenant architectures or distributed systems. Software development background: Familiarity with building software using languages such as Python, Ruby, JavaScript, PHP, Go, or Rust. CI/CD, containers & APIs: Hands-on experience or close collaboration with CI/CD workflows, Docker/OCI container technologies, and a clear vision for intuitive API design. AI fluency: Daily use of modern AI tools to research, draft, and prototype workflows, paired with a realistic understanding of where current tools and models fall short. Agentic development: A strong perspective on autonomous agent architecture and how agentic workflows are transforming modern software engineering. Navigating ambiguity: Comfort with turning unstructured problem spaces into clear strategies and taking thoughtful action even with incomplete information. Collaborative communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of listening, building consensus, and uniting teams around a shared vision. Data-informed decision making: Ability to seek out and evaluate data to guide decisions and track success. Bonus points for Enthusiasm for using and testing the platform capabilities you help build. Experience using Kubernetes, or building self-service platforms on Kubernetes Where we hire At Upsun, remote work isn't just a trend - it's our foundation.
