Marketing Assignment: What You Need to Do Choose one specific product or service and one significant change it experienced. Your assignment is to explain what changed, why it happened, how the company handled it, and what can be learned from the results. Do not write a complete history of the brand. The change could have been initiated by the company or caused by outside forces. Either way, explain what prompted it and how the company responded. What Your Paper Must Cover 1. Explain the change. Identify the product or service and describe the specific change you are studying. Establish what things looked like before and after, why the change occurred, and whether the company initiated it. 2. Analyze the 5Cs before and after the change. * Consumer: Who were the customers? How did their needs, preferences, or behaviors change? * Company: How did the company’s capabilities, priorities, or challenges shift? * Collaborators: How were partners, suppliers, distributors, or other collaborators involved or affected? * Competition: How did competitors influence the change, and how did the company’s competitive position shift? * Context: What broader cultural, economic, technological, or other outside forces mattered? 3. Explain the company’s aspirational plan. Using the framework taught in class, explain what the company wanted to achieve and how that direction changed. Consider whom it wanted to serve, the value it wanted to offer, and how it wanted customers to perceive the product or service. 4. Analyze the action plan—the marketing mix. Explain what the company actually did through its product, pricing, distribution, and promotion decisions. Show how those actions supported its aspirational plan, and identify any gaps between its goals and its execution. 5. Evaluate the outcomes and lessons. Explain what happened as a result. Assess what worked, what did not, and why. Your conclusion should offer insights about what this example teaches us about marketing strategy. What the Professor Is Looking For This is an analysis of the marketing strategy frameworks studied in class, supported by research and your own thoughtful judgment. Do more than list facts or describe events: explain what the evidence means and connect it to your argument. Look beyond internet research where possible. Talk to customers, draw connections to course readings, and consider the experience from the customer’s perspective. What You Must Submit Submit a presentation and a paper. The instructions provided specify these requirements for the paper: * Maximum 1,000 words, excluding bibliography, captions, and footnotes. * Double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman or Helvetica. * Any citation style, used consistently. * Submit as a PDF
