Contract Writer – Long-Term and Post-Acute Care American Association of Post-Acute Care Nursing (AAPACN) Title: Independent Contractor / Contract Writer Department: Education and Certification Strategy Reports to: Director of Education and Certification Strategy Classification: Contract Supervises: None About AAPACN The American Association of Post-Acute Care Nursing (AAPACN) represents more than 21,000 post-acute care nurses and professionals working in more than 6,000 facilities nationwide. Dedicated to supporting long term post-acute care (LTPAC) nurses and healthcare professionals in providing quality care, AAPACN offers members best-in-class education, certification, resources, and strong collaborative communities. Position Overview AAPACN is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Contract Writer to develop informative, educational articles for AAPACN publications and other educational forums. This opportunity is ideal for writing professionals with experience in expert-led feature articles, who would enjoy translating complex clinical, regulatory, operational, and professional topics into practical content for healthcare professionals. Writers are engaged on an independent-contractor, as-needed basis. Article topics and assignments will be mutually agreed upon between the writer and the AAPACN Education and Certification Strategy team.
• Research and write commissioned articles on topics relevant to long-term and post-acute care professionals. • Develop articles of up to 1,200 words based on agreed-upon assignments and specifications. • Create content for audiences that may include: o Nurse assessment coordinators, clinical reimbursement specialists, billers/coders, certified nursing assistants, and other interdisciplinary team members o Directors of nursing services, nurse managers, and other nurse leaders o Administrators and owners/operators • Produce content that is positive, informative, educational, and useful to AAPACN's professional audiences. • Organize articles with clear titles, paragraphs, and helpful subheadings. • Follow APA- and AAPACN-style guidelines, including appropriate references. • Follow AAPACN’s AI policy. • Write in an expert-led feature article style, highlighting subject matter experts in the field. • Participate in AAPACN's editorial and peer-review processes and make revisions as needed to produce high-quality, publication-ready content. • Work collaboratively with AAPACN editors while independently managing the research and writing process. General Requirements The ideal contract writer will have: • Demonstrated professional writing experience, preferably creating educational, technical, healthcare, association, or B2B content. • Exceptional writing, editing, grammar, and research skills. • Ability to research unfamiliar or complex topics and translate them into clear, engaging, accurate content for a professional audience. • Ability to interview or collaborate with subject-matter experts and turn their expertise into polished articles. • Ability to write for a professional audience in an informative and educational tone, quoting and paraphrasing experts appropriately. • Experience working with editorial guidelines, deadlines, and revision processes. • Familiarity with APA Style. • Strong attention to accuracy, sourcing, organization, and detail. • Ability to incorporate editorial feedback. • Experience working in or writing about healthcare, long-term care, post-acute care, regulatory topics, or nursing is a plus, but not required. • The ability to work independently and meet mutually agreed-upon deadlines. Contract Details This is an independent contractor opportunity, not an employee position. Work is offered on an as-needed basis, and AAPACN does not guarantee a minimum number of assignments or hours. Writers may provide services to other organizations provided those engagements do not create a conflict of interest with their work for AAPACN. AAPACN currently compensates contract writers $400 – 600 for submitted articles that are published in AAPACN newsletters or other AAPACN forums, with a maximum article length of 1,200 words. Writers invoice AAPACN monthly for completed services, with final payment made after required materials and the final draft have been approved for publication. Published work created under the contract becomes the property of AAPACN. Contract writers are also required to protect confidential and proprietary AAPACN information and content.
