Progress OpenEdge / ABL Developer – Legacy Application Maintenance & Support

Looking for Senior Progress OpenEdge Developer – Application Maintenance Job Description We are looking for an experienced Progress OpenEdge / ABL Developer to maintain and support an existing business-critical Order Management System (OMS). The application is built primarily on Progress OpenEdge and supports important business operations, including order processing, data management, batch operations, and business reporting. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience working with legacy Progress applications, troubleshooting production issues, and maintaining complex systems with existing business logic. Key Responsibilities - Maintain, troubleshoot, and support existing Progress OpenEdge applications. - Analyze and debug OpenEdge ABL code. - Investigate application errors, failed processes, and production incidents. - Work with SQL Server and perform database queries and troubleshooting using SSMS. - Monitor and troubleshoot Windows services, scheduled tasks, and batch processes. - Investigate data inconsistencies and reporting issues. - Maintain existing application functionality while minimizing disruption to business operations. - Understand legacy code, business workflows, and system dependencies. - Document technical processes, recurring issues, and solutions. - Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to ensure system stability. Required Skills & Experience - Strong hands-on experience with Progress OpenEdge. - Proficiency in OpenEdge ABL (Advanced Business Language). - Experience maintaining and troubleshooting existing Progress applications. - Strong SQL skills and practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server. - Experience using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). - Knowledge of Windows-based application environments and services. - Experience troubleshooting production issues and performing root-cause analysis. - Ability to work independently with complex legacy systems.

Nice to Have

Experience with Progress OpenEdge Database. - Knowledge of PASOE (Progress Application Server for OpenEdge). - Experience with ODBC and database connectivity. - C# / .NET application integration experience. - Experience supporting Order Management Systems (OMS), ERP, or other enterprise applications. - Experience with batch processing, scheduled jobs, and business reporting. Project Expectations - Focus on maintaining and stabilizing an existing application rather than developing a new system. - Ability to understand an established codebase and business processes quickly. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. - Good communication and documentation skills. - Availability to collaborate with an existing engineering team during knowledge transfer.
