Theatrical Sound Design Specialist

KRITERION — Italian Fashion Through the Lens of Cinema KRITERION is a theatrical fashion presentation celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival, taking place on Friday, November 6, at 8:30 PM at Queen Street Playhouse in Charleston. Inspired by Federico Fellini’s cinematic world, this 15–20-minute production blends fashion, film projections, music, and live performance across four acts. Two silent characters inspired by Marcello Mastroianni and Claudia Cardinale connect the runway sequences through movement and expression, culminating in a joyful, circus-inspired finale. We are seeking a sound engineer/audiovisual production specialist to collaborate on building the technical elements of the show. The professional would handle audio preparation, cue setup, and syncing visuals with audio during pre-production. Once complete, they would train a local student volunteer to manage playback on show day. As a nonprofit organization, we cannot cover travel expenses but offer compensation for this technical work.

The role

involves: - **Audio preparation**: Editing and mixing music, film audio, and sound effects with smooth transitions between scenes. - **Visual coordination**: Syncing projected images/film clips with audio or collaborating with a video editor. - **Playback preparation**: Building flexible cue sequences for live entrances/exits and timing. - **Training**: Guiding a local student volunteer to operate cues confidently during the show. - **Theater coordination**: Confirming equipment/software connections with Queen Street Playhouse’s technical team. - **Technical rehearsal**: Testing levels and transitions alongside the stage manager. Our preference is for someone local to Charleston, SC (USA) who can support both advance preparation and show-day playback. We have a limited budget, but compensation is available for this technical work.
