Health Writer for a New Alberta Therapist Directory (16 guides + 20 local pages) About the project A new online directory that helps people in Alberta find independent, regulated therapists: psychologists, social workers and counselling therapists in Calgary and Edmonton. We’re building a library of plain-language guides and local pages that help people understand their options, their costs and their insurance coverage, and find the right kind of care.
This role has two parts: Write 16 in-depth guides from your own research, using a short brief from us for each. Edit 20 shorter local pages from AI-assisted drafts we provide, making them accurate, consistent and ready to publish. You’re welcome to use AI tools for research or outlining, but the guides must be your own writing. Part 1: In-depth guides (16 pieces, about 1,200–2,500 words each). Written by you. Therapy for children, teens and families How each guide works Brief: we send the topic, the audience, the key questions to answer and the page it should lead readers to. Outline: you research and send a short outline for a quick approval. Draft: you write the full guide in Google Docs. Review: registered clinicians review the clinical guides, and a benefits specialist reviews the Care-First and insurance guides. Revise: you make one round of revisions from their notes. Each guide includes The finished article An FAQ section (3–6 questions), written for search An SEO title, a meta description and a suggested URL A source list with links: regulators, government sites, insurers, peer-reviewed or professional bodies Suggested internal links to related guides and pages Notes flagging anything that needs confirmation by our reviewers Part 2: Local directory pages (20 pieces, about 400–1,000 words each). Edited by you from AI drafts. City pages (about 600–1,000 words, with a local FAQ) 17. Therapists in Calgary 18. Therapists in Edmonton Designation pages (about 400–700 words), for Calgary and Edmonton 19–24. Psychologists; counselling therapists; social workers (including clinical social workers) Specialty pages (about 500–800 words), for Calgary and Edmonton 25–36. Adult individual therapy (anxiety and depression); trauma and PTSD; couples therapy; child, youth and family therapy; injury recovery; psychological assessments What editing these pages involves Fact-checking every claim, including local details and regulator information Rewriting so the Calgary and Edmonton versions read as genuinely local, not copies Keeping the wording consistent with the guides Adding an SEO title and meta description to each page Making one round of revisions after review: light clinician review on the specialty pages, and a check against the regulator’s register on the designation pages These pages share a template, so consistency across cities matters. If you would like, provide a quote to write all 36 pieces as well without us sending you an AI draft.
Proven experience writing consumer health or mental health content. Please share 2–3 samples. Strong research skills, comfortable with regulators, government programs and insurance rules in Canada; Alberta knowledge is a plus. Plain-language, warm and non-judgmental writing at about a grade 8–10 reading level. Working knowledge of SEO for health content, including local search (“therapist in Calgary”). Canadian spelling, and attention to consistency across templated pages. You must not be a therapist or clinician who could list on the directory. This keeps the content independent. Content rules Informational only: no diagnosis, treatment advice or promised outcomes. No claims about specific therapists or results; no testimonials. Insurance coverage is always described as “depends on your plan.” Where rules are new or changing, such as Care-First provider eligibility, say what is confirmed and what is still to be confirmed. Don’t guess.
