Case study: Does training work? John Green is the HR director of a financial services organization. He has recently provided a skill training for sales representatives in his organization. The objective of the training is to improve employee job performance. After the completion of the training, he sent out a survey among all the sales representatives to ascertain the training effectiveness. The dataset is available on the course site. Peter Smith is the HR analytics professional in this organization. He is asked by John to analyze the survey data to examine the effectiveness of this training in promoting sales representatives’ performance. In John’s conversation with Peter, he has made several points. “Peter, we have spent a lot of money on this training. I must show my boss that this training has made desired impact in terms of improving employee performance. So, can you provide data analysis results that will support this position?” “The sales manager is also interested in how his subordinates responded to this survey. Can you share the raw data with him?” “Peter, since you can find employee names in the survey, can you let me know who have not participated in this training?” “We are interested in how our competitors conducted training for their employees. Have you ever done research for them?" Your task is to write a research report based on the survey data that addresses the following: For each of the statements made by John Green (see the four dot points above); Identify the ethical issues that Peter needs to consider in his response Use the ethical principles introduced in the course to explain these issues and why they are important. Using regression analysis to identify which variables in the dataset (i.e., age, gender, supervisor support, training participation and learning) predict employee job competence? Explain this finding with theory and academic literature. Using regression analysis to identify which variables in the dataset (i.e., age, gender, supervisor support, training participation, learning and job competence) predict employee job performance? Explain this finding with theory and academic literature. Based on regression results from the previous two questions, calculate the indirect effect of training participation (predictor) on employee job performance (outcome) through employee job competence (mediator). Explain this indirect effect with theory and academic literature. (Tips: See the attached teaching notes on calculating the indirect effect and testing its statistical significance: How to test indirect effects.) Based on your statistical results, make recommendations to improve employee performance. Your report should be structured in the following manner: Title Table of contents Executive summary This is normally completed after the body of the report has been written. It is a short overview of the entire report, including the title of the report, the major issues addressed by HR analytics in the current report, a summary of the findings and recommendations Introduction Introduce the HR issues that will be discussed in the report. Discuss the ethical issues embedded in the four statements made by John Green Analyse the key data, present and interpret your results from the data analyses Propose recommendations Make appropriate recommendations Provide justifications for recommendations Conclusion References: You need to use at least EIGHT academic references from reliable sources. Use APA referencing conventions to cite any external sources used.
