Paul & Pat’s Home Interior design concept and phased renovation plan Project description We are looking for an interior designer to develop an initial concept and phased renovation plan for our home in Melbourne. This is a concept and scoping project, not a request for construction drawings or a complete renovation design. Style direction We like a contemporary European-classic look: calm, tailored and architectural, combining simplified traditional details with comfortable contemporary furniture. Our references include restrained wall panelling, substantial window surrounds, integrated joinery, warm off-whites and soft neutral colours, natural timber, and selected dark accents. The design should suit the home’s existing red-brick exterior and feel cohesive across the interior and outdoor areas. Renovation priorities We plan to carry out the work in stages. Please help us distinguish what should be done now, what should be planned now but built later, and what can wait. Phase 1 — practical improvements: • Improve the garage for laundry, freezer and pantry use, given the compact kitchen. Include concepts for storage, flooring, lighting and ventilation. • Develop main-bedroom wardrobe joinery ideas and recommend stair carpet. • Suggest minor improvements to the upstairs bathroom, including a rail and more usable storage. • Suggest interim kitchen improvements, including sink and cooktop considerations, ahead of a later full renovation. • Suggest a simple, functional barbecue-area setup rather than a finished outdoor design. Phase 2 — lounge and living areas: • Develop the lounge-room concept in more detail, including seating, furniture, storage, architectural detailing and its relationship to the courtyard. • Suggest coordinated living-room and study-area joinery, potentially including low display/storage joinery with concealed drawers. • Consider wall panelling, window surrounds and flooring as part of one coherent design. • Consider whether a stair skylight is worth investigating earlier. Later phase: • Provide an initial concept direction for a future full kitchen renovation. • Consider future courtyard/outdoor paving and improvements to the existing pool, likely 1–2 years away. Deliverables requested Please propose a fixed price for: 1. A concise concept presentation with an overall style direction and colour/material palette. 2. A lounge-room concept with furniture layout suggestions and ideas for seating, storage, windows, doors, window treatments and architectural detailing. 3. Mood boards or visual references for the key areas. 4. High-level concepts for the Phase 1 areas and future kitchen/outdoor direction, so early decisions do not conflict with later work. 5. A phased priority list showing what to do now, plan now/build later, and defer. 6. Indicative furniture, finishes and product suggestions, preferably available in Australia. 7. One round of revisions after we review the initial concept. The lounge should receive the most developed design concept; other areas can be addressed at a higher level. Simple annotated plans or sketches would be useful. Photorealistic renders are welcome but not essential; thoughtful, practical design ideas and a clear implementation sequence matter more to us. We can provide additional house photos, the property listing and a Pinterest board of references to shortlisted candidates. Please identify assumptions and flag any ideas requiring on-site assessment by local professionals, particularly changes to external openings, the garage, kitchen services or skylight. This commission is for concepts and phasing, not construction documentation or compliance advice.
