Role Summary Fanatics Live & Collect is building the future of live commerce for sports fans and collectors, bringing together content, community, and commerce in highly interactive digital experiences. We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to shape the technical strategy and architecture behind Fanatics Live’s streaming experiences. This role requires strong end-to-end engineering knowledge, with particular depth in frontend development. You’ll define how we build high-performance customer experiences using React and GraphQL , while influencing the backend services, APIs and event-driven systems that power them. As one of the senior technical leaders within a new and growing team, your focus will extend beyond coding. You’ll set architectural direction, solve complex cross-team challenges and establish the engineering standards, practices and culture needed to scale successfully. You’ll remain technically close to delivery—using prototypes, design reviews and targeted implementation to validate decisions and unblock teams—while creating leverage across the wider engineering organisation. What You’ll Do Set the technical strategy for our consumer streaming product and supporting services. Define the end-to-end architecture across frontend applications, APIs, backend services and event-driven systems. Guide the development of scalable experiences combining live video, real-time interaction, discovery and commerce. Lead major technical decisions across performance, reliability, resilience and platform scalability. Create a clear technical roadmap that balances immediate product delivery with long-term platform health. Define how engineering teams design, build, review, test and operate software as the organisation scales. Establish reusable patterns and technical standards that improve quality and accelerate delivery across teams. Partner with engineering leaders, Product, Design and Data to turn ambitious product ideas into scalable solutions. Remain close to delivery through architecture reviews, prototyping, code reviews and targeted contributions to critical areas. Mentor engineers, build alignment across teams and raise the overall technical bar. Lead the technical response to significant production challenges and turn learnings into lasting platform improvements. What We’re Looking For 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience operating at Staff or equivalent level. Strong full-stack engineering knowledge, with deep expertise in modern frontend development. Significant experience with React , JavaScript/TypeScript and complex consumer web applications. Strong experience with GraphQL , APIs, backend services and frontend-to-backend integration. Experience setting technical direction for streaming products or streaming services . Strong knowledge of distributed systems, event-driven architecture and end-to-end system design. Experience designing high-scale, real-time products with demanding performance and reliability requirements. Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives across multiple teams and systems. Experience shaping engineering standards, technical practices and team culture. Strong architectural judgment and the ability to influence without relying on formal authority. A track record of mentoring engineers and making teams more effective. Strong product judgment and the ability to balance delivery speed, customer experience and long-term technical health.

Nice to Have

Experience across live commerce, marketplaces, auctions, social/community products or e-commerce. Experience supporting high-profile live events and rapidly changing traffic patterns. Knowledge of real-time communication technologies, payments or transactional systems. Fanatics Live brings together creators, fans, interactive live experiences, commerce, and community, making experience with real-time and high-scale consumer platforms particularly relevant to the role.
