I’m spinning up a brand-new decentralized platform and need a protocol engineer who can take it from concept to a working reference implementation. The first phase is all about defining the consensus, networking, and state-management layers, documenting every decision in a clear, peer-reviewable spec. From there, you’ll build a minimal but fully functional client, write comprehensive tests, and stress-test the network for security and performance. I’m still weighing up whether Ethereum, Polkadot, Solana, or even a purpose-built chain best suits the long-term vision, so your ability to justify the tech stack and articulate trade-offs is critical. Security is non-negotiable, scalability is a close second, and smooth paths to future interoperability will keep us ahead of the curve. Deliverables I need to see at each milestone: • Protocol architecture document with diagrams and threat model • Reference implementation (Rust, Go, or another performant language) that spins up a local devnet • Test suite covering consensus edge cases and network adversaries • Deployment guide and API/SDK documentation for external integrators I’ll be actively involved in reviews, but you’ll own the technical lead role—setting coding standards, choosing libraries, and ensuring we meet best practices in cryptography and P2P networking.
