Senior Magento 2 Developer — Ongoing Part-Time Contract

Remote worldwide | Initially 15–20 hours per week | Rate negotiable based on demonstrated Magento expertise We are an established UK ecommerce business seeking a hands-on senior Magento 2 developer for a long-term working relationship. You will work directly with the business owner to maintain and improve an existing store, investigate technical problems and deliver carefully scoped projects. The role

starts part-time, with potential to grow towards full-time as the workload and working relationship develop. Increased hours are not guaranteed. THE WORK - Assess, install and update third-party extensions, resolve compatibility issues and test their effect on existing functionality. - Investigate checkout, payment, shipping and tax issues. - Improve performance, including database queries, caching and frontend behaviour. - Develop and maintain custom modules, inventory workflows, imports and API integrations. - Make practical frontend improvements within an existing theme. - Maintain clear estimates, source control, release notes, test evidence and rollback procedures. TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE Our platform is Magento Open Source 2.4.x with approximately 25,000 SKUs, an established Luma/Porto-based frontend and multiple third-party extensions. Experience maintaining a catalogue of this scale is important. You should have: - Substantial hands-on Magento 2 experience, ideally five or more years, including ongoing ownership of live stores. - Strong PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, Knockout.js, RequireJS, HTML and CSS skills. - Practical understanding of Magento MSI, reservations, salable quantity, indexing, cron and queues. - Experience diagnosing Redis/Varnish caching and performance issues. - Confidence with Composer, Git, Linux, staging environments and controlled deployments. - Experience creating maintainable Magento modules and working with REST APIs and data imports. - Clear written and spoken English and the ability to explain technical trade-offs to a business owner. Adobe/Magento certification is welcome, but demonstrated delivery and sound judgement matter most. WORKING ARRANGEMENT We expect to begin with a small paid technical trial on staging, with scope and an hours cap agreed in advance. A successful trial would lead to an initial 6–8-week part-time engagement, reviewed together before extending. Please propose regular availability and at least two hours of overlap with UK business hours on agreed working days. Release support and any out-of-hours work will be agreed separately; this is not a 24/7 on-call role. Work will follow a prioritised backlog. Estimates and additional scope must be agreed before work starts. Production changes require approval, appropriate testing and a rollback plan. Code and technical documentation must be maintained in the client's repository. We prefer to work directly with the developer doing the work.
