I’m developing a new cantilever snap-on cover that will shield moving mechanical parts inside a small assembly. The part will be molded in ABS, and I need the snap features, wall thicknesses, draft angles, and ribbing all optimized for production while ensuring the cover can take repeated impacts without cracking or popping off. Scope of work • Model a manufacturable cover with integral cantilever latches that can be installed and NOT removed by hand—no fasteners. • Balance stiffness and flexibility so the snaps survive multiple cycles yet hold securely under vibration. • Apply good DFM practice for ABS: correct gate locations, uniform wall thickness, radii, and proper draft. • Provide native CAD (SolidWorks preferred) plus neutral STEP/IGES files, 2-D drawing with critical dimensions, and a brief note on material call-outs highlighting the high-impact ABS grade you recommend. • Optional but appreciated: a simple FEA or hand check showing the snap arms will not exceed allowable strain when flexed. Acceptance I’ll review the CAD for fit, check that it meets the overall envelope I’ll supply, and verify the latch deflection/strain numbers. Once approved I’ll release the final milestone so you can hand over the full file set. If you have experience designing snap-fits for injection-molded ABS—especially covers that protect mechanical parts—let’s talk.
