Senior Accountant and ERPNext Automation Lead Remote | International Applicants Welcome | $20–$30 USD/hour Initial paid trial: 60–90 days at 20–40 hours per week Following a successful trial: primary accounting position at 30–40 hours per week We are seeking a hands-on expert who can personally run multi-entity accounting, implement ERPNext accounting workflows, and build reliable automation using ChatGPT AI and integrations. You must demonstrate substantial expertise in ALL FOUR areas: accounting, ERPNext, ChatGPT AI, and automation. Familiarity is not enough. Installing ERPNext, entering transactions, or using ChatGPT to write emails does not establish the experience we need. OUR ENVIRONMENT Existing tools include QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Quicken, and Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint. We are developing an ERPNext environment. The first step is to validate its configuration, document existing processes, and agree an appropriate migration scope. WHAT YOU WILL OWN • Accurate bookkeeping, bank and credit-card reconciliations, AP/AR, intercompany balances, allocations, month-end close, and financial reporting. • Capture and document recurring responsibilities with our current controller, including recorded process walkthroughs and accounting calendars. • Configure ERPNext companies, charts of accounts, dimensions, permissions, approval workflows, imports, and reporting. • Plan and reconcile migration work, preserve source records, and investigate differences. • Build email/scanned invoice intake, AI-assisted extraction, validation, duplicate detection, manager approval, accounting entries, and payment preparation. • Route exceptions to the responsible manager and maintain useful status reports. • Maintain integrations with error handling, safe retries, monitoring, recovery, documentation, and team training. Our ambition is to automate over 90% of routine processing where practical. This must be measured against a documented baseline. We expect accurate books and reliable workflows, with appropriate human approvals. REQUIRED PROOF OF EXPERTISE • Personally owned reconciliations and closes for multiple entities. • At least two substantive ERPNext accounting implementations or migrations involving meaningful configuration and validation. • At least one production AI-assisted accounting workflow and one maintained automation; one project can demonstrate both if it meets both requirements. • Practical ability with APIs, structured data, workflow tools, access controls, duplicate prevention, logging, and failure recovery. • Ability to show what you personally built, explain how it works, diagnose failures, and verify accounting results. • Clear written English and agreed working-hour overlap. CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent qualifications and US client experience are welcome. Our external CPA remains responsible for specialist tax advice. Strong references and practical evidence matter more than certificates alone. ENGAGEMENT AND PAY $20–$30 USD per hour. Please apply within this range. International applicants are welcome. The initial paid trial will last 60–90 days at 20–40 hours per week, with the weekly schedule agreed in advance. Following successful completion of the trial and mutual agreement, the full-time role will be 30–40 hours per week as our primary accountant. You will own day-to-day accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, reporting, and ongoing accounting automation, with designated management approvals and external CPA support. Please confirm availability for both stages. We seek a named individual who will personally do the work. If applying through an agency, identify the actual proposed worker and disclose any subcontracting. Our office owns the systems, code, documentation, and accounts used for this work. We use limited access and separate payment approvals; this role does not independently change vendor banking instructions and release payments. SELECTION Shortlisted candidates complete a paid practical assessment using synthetic data in an ERPNext sandbox, followed by a live walkthrough. How do you handle incorrect AI totals, ambiguous entities, missing evidence, or document instructions to bypass approval? 8. Explain accounting for an expense belonging to one entity but paid by another entity and reconciling both sides. 9. Explain your vendor banking change verification and payment approval controls. 10. What ERPNext/Frappe and integration work can you personally build, and what requires a specialist? Disclose anyone else who would perform work. 11.
