I need a complete water-hammer (surge) analysis for a 320 km steel pipeline that transports oil through three pumping stations. The internal diameter is below 500 mm, so pressure waves will travel fast and could overstress the line if pumps trip or valves close unexpectedly. Scope of work • Build a transient model in AFT Impulse, Bentley HAMMER, or a comparable tool that handles oil properties accurately. • Include the full elevation profile, pipe roughness for steel, pump and valve characteristics, and all three stations. • Simulate critical cases such as pump trip, power failure, controlled and emergency valve operations, and start-up/shutdown. • Identify maximum and minimum surge pressures and verify they stay within allowable limits for a steel pipe of this size. • Size and locate surge-protection devices—relief valves, air vessels, non-slam check valves, or other viable options—and propose operational procedures that minimise transients. Deliverables 1. Editable model files and any calculation spreadsheets. 2. A concise design report with assumptions, scenarios, pressure/flow plots, and recommended protection equipment specifications. 3. A summary sheet I can share with stakeholders outlining key findings and required hardware. I will supply detailed alignment sheets, pump curves, valve data, and fluid properties once the project begins. When you reply, please mention similar long-distance oil or water projects you have analysed, the software you prefer, and your typical turnaround time for a study of this complexity.
