About the job

I plan to bring premium Japanese sake into Australia and need hands-on guidance to make sure every step satisfies federal and state alcohol regulations. My priority is securing all mandatory import permits and demonstrating full compliance so that the product can legally reach restaurants, bars, and retail bottle shops nationwide. You will steer the entire permit process—liaising with the Department of Agriculture, Australian Border Force, and any state liquor authorities—while advising on label standards, product classification, and duty/tax obligations specific to sake. Because distribution will target both on-premise venues and retail stores, I also need clarity on any additional conditions attached to those sales channels. Deliverables I must receive • Approved import permit(s) with all supporting documentation • Written compliance checklist covering duties, tax codes, labelling, and storage requirements • Brief step-by-step guide I can follow for future shipments of the same product Please confirm your recent experience importing alcoholic beverages into Australia—ideally rice-based or similar products—and your familiarity with the systems (ICS lodgement, Wine Equalisation Tax calculations, etc.) that keep shipments moving smoothly. A concise timeline from permit application to clearance will help me plan my first container.
