求人について

Project Title: Experienced Human Book Editor for 57,000-Word Non-Fiction Memoir Project Description: I’m seeking an experienced literary or developmental editor to assess my memoir, ‘The Only Way Out Is Through’, currently approximately 57,000 words. The manuscript follows a childhood in Newfoundland shaped by family instability, the search for independence through travel and nursing, the experience of finding an unexpected sense of belonging in love, and the sudden loss that profoundly altered the direction of my life. Although the memoir addresses childhood adversity, traumatic loss, PTSD, and the difficult years that followed, it is not intended to be solely a trauma narrative. At its heart, it explores identity, belonging, the difference between surviving and living, and the possibility of building a meaningful life without requiring the past to be resolved. The manuscript has undergone substantial structural and literary revision. I am now looking for an editor who can approach it as a work of narrative nonfiction, with particular attention to literary quality, emotional authenticity, narrative architecture, pacing, and restraint. I would especially appreciate an editor who is comfortable challenging the manuscript rather than simply affirming it. I’ve included the prologue, The Photograph, as a brief introduction to the voice and literary approach. I’m interested in hearing whether the writing draws you in, whether the opening establishes sufficient narrative curiosity, and whether you believe the manuscript has the potential to reach a traditional publishing audience. My goal is not simply to tell a difficult story. It is to make the telling of that story worthy of a reader’s time. The editorial scope would include: 1. Developmental and structural assessment: Evaluate the overall narrative architecture, chapter progression, chronology, pacing, transitions, and balance between lived experience and retrospective reflection. 2. Literary quality and narrative voice: Assess the strength, consistency, originality, and emotional authenticity of the prose. Identify opportunities to improve literary sophistication without compromising the author’s distinctive voice. 3. Scene development and preservation: Identify where important experiences would benefit from greater sensory detail, dialogue, characterization, or narrative space. Equally important, recognize scenes that are already effective and should remain untouched. 4. Emotional depth and restraint: Evaluate whether significant emotional moments are sufficiently developed without becoming sentimental, repetitive, overly explanatory, or emotionally manipulative. Particular attention should be given to allowing readers to arrive at insights through experience rather than explanation. 5. Thematic continuity: Examine how recurring themes of belonging, identity, family inheritance, love, grief, usefulness, self-worth, and acceptance develop throughout the narrative. Ensure motifs accumulate meaning naturally rather than being repeatedly explained. 6. Character development: Assess whether the important people in the memoir emerge as complex, believable individuals rather than serving primarily as vehicles for the narrator’s emotional journey. 7. Rhythm, repetition, and prose refinement: Identify unnecessary repetition, overly abstract passages, weak transitions, and sentences that diminish the impact of stronger surrounding material. Recommend selective line-level improvements while preserving the manuscript’s literary character. 8. Opening and conclusion: Evaluate whether the prologue establishes sufficient curiosity and narrative promise, and whether the final chapters provide a satisfying, emotionally credible conclusion without suggesting that grief or recovery has been neatly resolved. 9. Publication competitiveness: Provide an independent assessment of the manuscript’s strengths, limitations, likely readership, and readiness for literary-agent submission. Where appropriate, compare its literary execution with successful contemporary memoirs. Desired Deliverables * A detailed editorial assessment letter identifying strengths, weaknesses, and prioritized recommendations. * An annotated manuscript with specific editorial comments and suggested revisions. * Targeted line editing of passages where prose refinement would materially improve literary quality. * A follow-up consultation to discuss editorial priorities and revision decisions. * An assessment of readiness for agent submission following revisions. Editorial Philosophy My primary concern is preserving the integrity of the lived experiences while improving the quality of their literary presentation. I am particularly interested in an editor who understands that powerful memoir writing often depends as much on what is left unsaid as on what is explained. The objective is not to make the manuscript longer, more dramatic, or more conventionally inspirational. It is to make it more compelling, emotionally precise, structurally cohesive, and memorable. I welcome rigorous, constructive criticism and am prepared to undertake meaningful revisions where they demonstrably strengthen the work. Freelancer Requirements: • Proven track record editing full-length non-fiction, creative non-fiction, or memoirs (please provide portfolio examples or references). • High emotional intelligence and sensitivity toward trauma-informed narratives. • Excellent, transparent communication and a collaborative approach. Application Instruction / Sample Edit: To ensure your editing style matches the voice and literary weight of the book, please be prepared to complete a brief, paid sample edit of 1,000 words from the opening chapter if shortlisted. Please kick off your proposal by stating your favorite non-fiction book or memoir so I know you have read this posting completely. Include your estimated flat rate, standard turnaround timeframe, and any relevant background in book editing. Stage Work Priority (paid pe
