Job description AI Engineering — the steepest learning curve you'll find You've used AI for everything: schoolwork, code, learning whatever you wanted. This is where you find out how it creates real value. You'll work directly with founders who've built products used by hundreds of millions of people, shipping production code that real patients depend on from week one. We optimize this role for one thing: how fast you grow. Past cohorts came in as students or new grads, and are now full-speed AI engineers in just a couple of months. If that's what you are looking for, read on. We build voice AI agents for healthcare practices on athenaOne, answering calls 24/7 alongside web chat and two-way SMS so patients can get answers, book appointments, request medication refills, and process faxes whenever they need to — while practice teams handle less administrative work. We've taken millions of patient calls just a few months after launch, and customers treat us as their one indispensable technology vendor: we're a 5-star rated voice AI solution for healthcare practices. Our founders have had multiple exits, and in this role you'll work directly with them, learning firsthand how healthcare practices buy and use AI. Role (contractor): Build real production features in our voice AI platform, working directly with the founders and some of the best AI engineers in the valley, not buried in a big team. You'll work with production code from week one and learn everything by doing. You will learn more in the first month than in your entire last year.
Build and improve AI agents that handle patient calls and clinic workflows Build API integrations and validation tools for healthcare systems Develop features using Python & TypeScript Use AI-assisted development tools daily (Cursor, Claude Code) as core workflow Ship production code in a fast iteration multi-agent environment Work with real customers on real-world problems What we're looking for You communicate exceptionally well. This is not a soft skill here; it's a hard requirement. In your submission and in interviews, we will first look for clear evidence of strong communication. You are the hardest worker in your class Extreme curiosity and a fast learner See this as more than a job; you will learn from the top engineers in Silicon Valley and more than any classroom offers Experience in building a customer-facing product using AI Self-starter mentality: you take ownership of the projects and work things out yourself; you don't wait to be told what to do Comfortable asking questions; working with ambiguity and moving fast Nice to have: prior experience in technical roles Schedule & compensation 40+ hours/week, $10/hour The hourly rate is not why you want to take this job. What you get instead is access, direct, daily, unfiltered access, to founders and senior engineers, on production systems, with real customers, at a speed no classroom or big-company internship can match.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship. Available to start immediately (within two weeks of offer) and commit 40+ hours/week What success looks like Production code in our platform within your first week You'll learn healthcare systems, voice AI architecture, and startup engineering practices You'll have real patients depending on the code you wrote Many from past cohorts have transitioned into full-time AI engineering roles.
